Artist Picks: Fred MacAulay

You might know Scottish comic Fred MacAulay from his appearances on comedy quiz programmes They Think It's All Over, I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, Just a Minute, QI, The News Quiz, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week.

Or perhaps from his 18 year stint at the helm of BBC Scotland's morning show, his Radio 4 panel show or even his turn on Comic Relief does Fame Academy.

What we're trying to say is, he's been busy - and that's not about to change, with a huge UK-spanning two month tour starting next month.

We pinned Fred down for five minutes to ask him which of the 100,000+ events listed on Ents24 he'd go to - if, that is, he had the time.

Fred's picks:

"Firstly I'm going musical. I'm not a festival goer but I was delighted to see that Eddi Reader has a number of gigs coming up. Some at festivals, but the one I've chosen is when she's singing with Phil Cunningham at his 'Christmas Songbook' gig at Queens Hall Edinburgh on Dec 18th. Also on the bill: Karen Matheson (and others) and it's bound to be a cracker. No pun intended."

"I've seen Joe Lycett a couple of times over the Fringe in Edinburgh. Thoroughly enjoyable. Very funny. And when he was a guest on The Horne Section's Question Sessions I got to see how smart he is as well. Some of his shows are already sold out."

"Tom Stade. One of a number of Canadians (2) who have moved to Scotland. Getting regular shouts on big variety shows now which has increased his popularity. And dammit he's handsome."

"Jimeoin. My favourite Irish comedian from Australia. Never ever seen him anything other than hilarious. And I hope that our tour dates coincide somewhere so I can beat him at golf."

"Al Murray, The Pub Landlord. I'd love to hear the landlords chat about his foray into politics when he stood against Nigel Farage in the recent election. One of them had gone very quiet."

"For onstage inventiveness I'm going to pick Nina Conti. Always always always funny. And skill personified."

"It's only since trawling through the pages I've realised how many comedians are on tour. If anyone turns up to one of my gigs I'll be over the moon!!"
